Artist's Statement

My primary interest is to produce art that can be shown in a public forum. I prefer working on a large scale, to fill the visual space with the richness of materials.

My inquiry is on a perceptual level, to elicit an abstract response from the viewer. Not to recall a specific place or object, but to create a transcendent reality. To remind without being specific. To be contemplative and serene. To transform the viewer beyond relative space into their own imagination. The materials are durable, permanent, and the maintenance is minimal.

My work is bas-relief, constructed of steel and copper wire. Some pieces include non-objective oil + encaustic paintings. The pieces consists of thousands of copper wires, which catch the natural as well as the artificial light to produce a shimmering effect.

The work calls to mind vast fields of wheat, vistas of oceans, and open spaces.

I have been working in this direction for the past eighteen years, and have installed many pieces, of varying sizes, in public as well as private spaces.

Included in my larger public space experience are: installations in the Haneda Airport, Japan; a large lobby in San Francisco; the IBM facilities in Atlanta; the two lobbies of the Century Plaza Towers in Los Angeles. In many projects I have collaborated with architects, building planners, and interior design specialists. One 24, commission was in co-operation with the U.S. Army. I am currently working on a 20â commissioned work for the new lobby of the Department of Commerce in Washington D.C.
