Description: For this sculpture, one in a series of boxed books of various sizes, pages from John Locke's Essay Concerning Human Understanding were ripped from their binding, lined with clay and fired in a kiln at a temperature exceeding 1900 degree F. The fired pages then contained the transferred text were filed in an open-ended maple box, a reference to the presentation of valued Japanese ceramic ware.
